1. What is “Music of the Brain”?
“Music of the Brain” is a highly efficient method of treatment for patients that suffered from different neurological and psychiatric diseases as well as for increasing adaptive potential in healthy people. The method is based on listening to the music that has been individually recorded by transforming of the bioelectrical activity of the patient’s brain (EEG) into music.

2. How is “Music of the Brain” recorded?
“Music of the Brain” is recorded by using specially designed computer equipment.
The electrodes are applied on a patient’s head and a 5-minute recording of the EEG is administered. During this time the patient is awake and relaxed with his/her eyes closed.
As well as the EEG recording, psychological tests are also provided in order to evaluate patient’s sleep quality and the patient’s personality. Then the recorded EEG is transformed into “music” by specially designed computer algorithm, which was invented in 1991 by Dr. Y.Levine, M.D., D.Sc., Professor of Neurology. The music is then placed onto CD or audiocassette and the patient will listen to it according to individual recommendations from one of the “Music of the Brain” specialists.

3. Is it possible to record “Music of the Brain” at home?
Yes, it is possible when a specialist arrives to your home with all the necessary equipment.

4. What does “Music of the Brain” do?
It is still not completely clear how Music of the Brain works, but it is safe to say that it is a combination of biofeedback, music therapy and resonance therapy, which is the process when brain “recognizes” its own oscillations and as a result, the functional state of the brain improves.

5. Has it been proven that “Music of the Brain” is effective?
Yes, it has been proven by research that was conducted during the period of time between 1992 and 1998. International standards were applied to this research. The leading specialists from Moscow, St.-Petersburg (Russia) and Lions (France) were involved in this research.

There are wide variations in style and rhythms in different people. Some times it sounds like Mozart, some times Skriabin or Shnitke.

No, there are two tracks of music recorded for listening to: Relaxing and Activating. Each of which is listened to accordance to an individual recommendations.

13. How frequently can the activating track of “Music of the Brain” may be used? Wouldn’t too frequent usage of it initialize overexcitement of the brain?
“Activating” track should be used in accordance with recommendations from Music of the Brain specialist.

14. Could the “Music of the Brain” initiate unpleasant feelings or side effects?
For the period of 8 years we have not seen any side effects from “Music of the Brain” in all of 3000 people who have been treated with the “Music of the Brain”.

15. Is it hard to wake up in the morning if “Music of the Brain” was listened to in the evening the previous day?
The morning awakening is much easier if “Music of the Brain” was listened in the evening on the day before. There are no indications of flaccid or weakness. Furthermore, listening to the “activating” track in the morning apparently amplify and prolong good spirit and will keep it through the rest of the day.

16. Isn’t it dangerous, that the brain is “talking” to itself when “Music of the Brain” is being listened to?
No, because the indication for use of “Music of the Brain”are for people who do not have organic damages of the brain.

17. Isn’t it hypnotizing?
This is absolutely impossible, because the procedure is conducted by well-trained specialists who have the right to work with your EEG only. Investigations show that “Music of the Brain” does not affect sleep quality in people who do not have any sleep problems.

18. Is “Music of the Brain” helpful in children with enuresis?
Yes, it is. There has been a study conducted, that showed these capabilities in such children in conjunction with psychotherapy and without taking any medications.

19. Does “Music of the Brain” help people who are suffered from Parkinson disease?
Yes, “Music of the Brain” improves symptoms of the Parkinson disease such as constraint and hypo kinesis as well as decreases degree of depression, which is very common in patients with Parkinson disease.

21. Is “Music of the Brain” useful for students who are under stress during examination period?
Yes. One of our first investigations was done on students that were preparing for exams.

Yes, it is possible, but not in all cases.

Yes, because listening to the “activating” music allows a person to work more actively during shift-based work. At the same time “relaxing” music is helpful in recuperative process after the night shift.

Yes, but very little.

30. Is “Music of the Brain” improving appetite?
We don’t have any data regarding this particular application, but some people who were in the process of weight loss while being treated with “Music of the Brain” for different purposes, mentioned that “Music of the Brain” has helped them to reach their dieting goal.

31. Does “Music of the Brain” affect dream type? Do they become brighter, more boring or do they disappear completely?
During treatment of patients suffered from sleep disorders with “Music of the Brain”, the structure of sleep is normalizes, REM is restored. That means that if patient was suffering from horror dreams before treatment, they could disappear.

No, this is not possible yet.

34. What kind of personality types are better treated by “Music of the Brain”?
The “Music of the Brain” works equally well for all people, but using recommendations is individual.

35. How long is each session? How many sessions are needed per day? How long is the entire treatment course?
Duration of one session varies from 5 to 12 minutes for “relaxing” music and 50 sec to 3 min for activating music and depends on the type of EEG. The number of times that person listens per day is determined by the EEG analysis and by the psychological tests results, which are performed just prior to the EEG recording. The duration of the course also varies from one listening (for healthy people), to one-month for people who have suffered from depression, anxiety and drug addiction.

36. In the case of unexpected emotional stress, is it O.K. to add an extra listening session?
Yes, and we always mention it in our recommendations.

37. What body position is better for listening to “Music of the Brain”?
Any comfortable position for you is OK, but when you listen to the “relaxing” music just before going to sleep, it is better to be already in the bed.
You can listen to “Music of the Brain” while walking or being seated to prepare for a stressful situation or during sports competitions whenever headphones are available.

38. Can I do anything else while listening to the “Music of the Brain”?
It is not recommended to do so, except walking in moderate speed.

39. What way is best for listening to the “Music of the Brain”: by using headphones or through the stereo system?
It is better to use headphones, because it can disturb other people if you use the stereo system. But if you are alone during this time, you can use the stereo system.

40. How long will effect of the “Music of the Brain” last after treatment by “Music of the Brain” has been completed?
Usually the effect of the “Music of the Brain” after treatment has been completed is lasts about 4-6 months, but in some cases it could be up to 3 years. In most situations it depends on problem that was treated by the music.

41. Can I listen to the “Music of the Brain” not as recommended by MBI specialist, but irregularly, from time to time?
Yes. We even recommend doing this to healthy people who are performing their tough work from time to time. They listen to the music when they need to get prepared for difficult work, or to quickly restore their strength.

42. How often is a new recording needed?
We recommend to repeat the recording after 2-6 months following the first appointment. The second record is final, and is not necessary to repeat it, but in some cases we do third and forth recording if the patient asks us.

43. Will every single track participate in “the Best Music of the Brain” competition?
Everybody may send his or her own “Music of the Brain” to the competition, but referees are not composed yet. We hope that we could attract a real professional musicians who would be able to evaluate it.
